why assume that the accountants are to blame?
could be the engineers fault, all by themselves.
at the end of the day, they make cars to sell for a profit. if the engineers choose more expensive components, the customer will need to pay a higher price. if there aren't enough customers willing to do that, the company will fail just as surely as poor product quality will cause it to fail.
