RE: Newer Mercedes Not as solid as before??

Regardless of the confusion about the fine line between durability, longevity, and passenger safety, which to me seem to be encompassed in all the pre-1987 model Benz's and which seems compatible with the Kelly blue book and NADA higher price values, I have to make the claim that my W110 series [1974 280S] is a tank and will put a hole in anything on the road today. That's when I say, "Ouch!" with a vicious grin.

That comment I made was more like a misplaced thought.

I meant to suggest that the man driving the van may have been intoxicated. In a humorous manner, of course.

I think I IN FACT may have been consuming a little too much "brewskie" at the time I had written that.[:I]

Yes, they did. I believe there were two crumple zones in the rear(just behind the C-Pillar), and two up front(at the immediate front). However I think the frontal crush zones were very small, and the rears were quite large.

F1Crazydriver, That's not bad to hit a wall at 110 and you did not even sratch or bruise the car,Mercedes paint and tin work must be getting better.

And lets not forget all the safety features that assist a "GOOD" driver to avoid accidents in the first place.

Talking about good drivers, Benz drivers (on the average) drive much more sensibly than others, period.

Driving LA's freeways, I always look for another Benz & most of the time both of us will run together, not unlike a wingman, blocking from getting cut off, etc... It works (till gangbangers start shooting at us, ha ha).

RE: Newer Mercedes Not as solid as before??

yea, these new MBZ's just aren't as good as they used to be.The only two reasons I didn't buy the new S Classes (2000 UP) is because:

1) They just aren't as strong as the w126 and w140

2) I don't have the money.
