It's wierd. Som many people, a LOT on this board, just sit back and TAKE the shoddiness Merceds has been shoveling out since the W140. And if you DARE come on here and VOICE that a car of this caliber OUGHTA WOULDA COULDA SHOULDA been better than this, WATCH the attack from some people around here. Just today in the NEW C-class board, I read a guy say, "hey, it's a Mercedes, not a Honda. EXPECT THINGS TO BREAK" !!!??? Sooooo now, it's come to this...?
I think that every enthusiast board suffers from the same kind of "problem." I used to own a 1998 Cadillac Seville with the N* engine. At around 45k miles it starting giving me problems. I finally "gave it away" on a trade in for an E series Benz.
I posted a laundry list of the problems that I had with my Seville on a Caddy board. I also posted that all 6 of my Benzes (past and present) have been relatively trouble free (compared to the Caddies that I have owned).
I did not bash Caddies in general, I only bashed the ones that I have previously owned (all four were manjor POS).
You should have read the flaming that I received as a result of my post. You'd have thought that I was a serial murderer advocating the overthrown of the U.S. government. I mean, there was even one poster that questioned my patriotism by repeating the line "BUY American or BYE America." (He is probably a regular at Wal-Mart who buys all of their "Made in China" goods.)
It got to be kind of ridiculous after a while.
So it is not just Benz owners who suffer from a bit of jingoism when it comes to their favorite brand. All car makers manufacture junk, some just manufacture more junk than others!
I love my Benzes, but even Benz's chairman has owned up to the fact that in recent years Benzes have not been as well-built as they were in the past. And if anyone drives a W124 with a wiring harness problem, then you don't need to tell him or her about Benz's quality problems.
Oh well...even a used Benz is still better than any other new car...IMHO...[8D]
