RE: Could this be a total loss
It doesn't look THAT bad . . . it is possible that the insurance company could decide to go ahad with repairs.
If they decide not to repair it, you could still ask to buy the damaged car off of them and then fix it up yourself. This would be especially good if you owned the car for it's entire life and know that it was very well maintained . . .
Back half a year ago, I convinced my Dad to buy a damaged W140 1993 300SE (aka S320) with only 25000 miles on it. We had the back end repaired, and the car had a rebuilt title. When I was driving it to the dealer the day after getting it (had it licensed for about 45 minutes) I got rear ended at an intersection, pushing my car into the SUV in front. The SUV had a spare tire and trailer hitch on the back, so the damage was pretty costly.
Anyways, even with the rebuilt title already on the car, the insurance compnay decided to have it repaired rather than salvaged. The cost to fix it was $12000CAN ($7500US). The car is now better than when we first got it, and I managed to swing an OEM S600 grille out of the deal.
With all that said, I believe there is a chance that your car may be repaired . . . please keep us updated [:)]
Best of luck,
