We have had 3 accidents in our family. All of them happened with a Mercedes Benz. First one was in a 97 C-Class. That car was rear ended twice very badly. Twice the boot was pushed in all the way but it did not penetrate the rear seat. The other 2 separate cars were write offs....
Secondly, we had an 86 W124 230TE. Our car was hit right in the centre just right where the B pillar is. The other car went through a red light and would have been doing 70km/h. None of our glass shattered, and no part of the car penetrated inside. The doors still opened despite the car being a wreck. My father who was driving was not injured in anyway.
Lastly and hopefully lastly, accident side/front impact in our 94 E280. Moron turning right out of nowhere, I hit his door and my front was damaged. Result? His car a write off, my car new front headlight and bumper.
Goes to show that they really are engineered like no other...
A couple months ago, we bought a '93 300SE with on 20000 miles! We had bought it with a little bit of rear end damage (to trunk lid, bumper, and right quarter panel), but we got it all fixed up and looking as good as new.
The day after we got the car out of the shop, I was taking the car to the dealer to get the stereo programmed. Well, my luck caused me to get rear ended! Unbelieveable!
Anyways, this happened at a red light. The Pathfinder in front of me stopped, so I stopped, and the Windstar behind me stopped; however, the caravan behind the Windstar slammed into it at about 60 mph, which pushed the Windstar into the back of my Benz, which pushed the Benz into the back of the Pathfinder. I hardly felt the bump! The two minivans behind me were a mess and were written off, but my Benz was fixed for $14000CAN (mainly due to the high cost of hood, front bumper, grille assembly). The Pathfinder wasn't really damaged because I hit the spare tire on it's ack hatch.
Let it be known that I was the ONLY person involved in this accident not to file any Bodily Injury claims with the Insurance companies, and there were 10 people involved in the accident! Even the passengers in the Pathfinder in front of me claimed injuries, and I took most of the impact before them!
I love the Mercedes . . . it is such a safe machine!
Mercedes were the first to pioneer the safety cage. They are years ahead of their time.
I was watching Lethal Weapon 4 when a big tractor trailer T-boned a W126 at highway speeds. When the camera showed the dead Chinese criminal hanging out of the door of the 420SEL dead, and I observed the car, I wondered if it could be fixed with a little polish and cladding strips.[:D] Too stiff for its own good, really. The roof looked unaffected too.
I have to agree. My father bought me a 99 SLK 230, starmark certified etc. As I was comming back from Homecoming this past November, someone attemped to pass me and hit me (he was going roughly 70, i was at 35 -- the speed limit). My car aquaplaned and hit the guardrail over the Santa Ana River. The cops kept telling me that if I was in a Toyota or Honda, I would have been dead. They took me to the hospital, and after I got home, I got a call from Mercedes Benz asking how I was doing. That was kind of surprising. We ended up buying a 2001 C320 with the insurance money. And I am loving it!
