Red face I got one too...

this post is pure genius

not a merc but nonetheless;

the other day I saw a nissan 240SX (really old coupe, rust bucket POS and quite obviously not a well maintained auto) labeled as a GTR.
um, excuse me a second but, GTR's are skylines, NOT 240SX's.
what the hell?
*sigh* what people do to look "cool" when actually it makes you look like complete idiot

I've seen a S84 around my complex, complemented with an SL84

I actually have a Brabus badge on the back of my car. but ONLY becuase Brabus of Newport Beach gave it to me after I had them swap out suspension, wheels (of course), exhaust and minor service. Yes yes I know there is no "Brabus engine."

I'd rather see a debadged MB than a poser MB with improper or fake badges. Debadging is actually an option from MB in some countries.

When I lived in Saudi Arabia, about 20 years ago, there were a lot of Benzes there with gold just about anywhere it could be put. What an eyesore. But then, they liked it.

It is pretty funny to see people trying to perpetrate the "Fake Rolex Syndrome" as described above. It's not all that common over here in Japan. What IS common, though, is to see AMGs, Brabus, Lorinsers, Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Aston Martins, Lotuses, and quite a few Bentleys driving around town. Oh, yeah, and a couple of Maybachs, too. It's fun to go downtown on a weekend and just look at cars (yeah, okay, and skirts).

With regard to debadging, I personally think that sometimes it cleans up the lines and makes a car prettier.

I have had the occasion to work the filming of several rap videos, and while some of the bigger name rappers use companies such as 310 and rent/lease their Maybach the lower budget ones just swap badges for close up filming.

Personally, I like it when someone puts on an AMG badge on their standard MB...and then proceeds to tell their unknowing friends that it is a "special" AMG variant...kidding. Actually, my favorite is a guy in SF who has AMG badges on his all white blinged, 21"er, chromed out CLK430, trolling for young meat.

I drive a 1992 Mercedes 300SE and I'm proud of the fact that its an inline six. So, I kept the "300SE" badge on the trunk lid "as is". I don't see why people do the posing of a higher or lower model. I saw an E55 AMG posing as an E230 or an E320 posing as an E55. Why can't Benz drivers just be proud of what they drive? Our cars are no Honda Civics!

Cheers,
Adam

Poseurs

I have to agree that the fake badging thing is pretty weak. Another thing that just makes my skin crawl is the double space parking. I don't mind if you want to take up two spaces on the far end of the parking lot, but what in the bloody hell gives you the Freakin right to take 2 spot right up by the front of the building. I had this happen yesterday at an office building here in Atlanta. Beautiful black S550 parked in two spot right at the visitors spaces up in the front. That is why I keep these little beauties in my business card holder. Feel free to distribute them yourself.
