A Mercedes dealer in Cape Town has bought the only Maybach 57 in South Africa from Daimler Chrysler South Africa (DCSA) to sell it. It was DCSA's demo car and it appears that they have not been able to sell any here after 3 years!! It is a 2004 model with about 13000km.
They want a fantastic price!!! About $415 000!!! Too much for us. About 3 million South African Rand!!!
Biggest problem is 80% import duty + lack of competition.
Depreciation on large Mercs is crazy - bought an S600, 2005 model for exactly half the amount the original owner paid - and it has just 25,000 miles on it, and all the extras ........
Biggest problem is 80% import duty + lack of competition.
Do any of the neighboring countries have a lower import duty? I would also think they have a Free trade Agreement with South Africa?
If so, import to those countries, register there then send to South Africa.
Im from Cote D'ivoire, i know how it is in africa, ours is 44% duty but all that money from import duties goes to Port officials who fill up their own pockets.
