Thank you for doing that. It will certainly clear up the confusion that W140 owners have had in the past about the Maybach. Those are some amazing pictures that you have.

I saw the Maybach prototype last year in one of MB's warehouses in Fellbach. I didn't look that closely b/c I really have no interest in the brand.

There's no question that Gert is correct--i worked at Sindelfingen in 2000 and they were STILL making rolling chassis from the 140 line, a full one year into the w220's model debut. I asked some engineers why they were making the old S still, and their reply was "for in-house development needs" I saw a number of oddly shaped and raised 140s running around the plant--most of which looked like the ones in the photos.
