How is the maybach built on the 'chassis of a w140'? and i find the w140 a bit soulless actually...it's a really solid car, but it's too much like a refrigerator to me...heavy, well insulated, but lacks design.
BTW, i've seen 3 Maybachs running around my area...

I have an S500 and while I consider it the epitome of luxury cars I wouldn't say no to a Maybach 57. The Maybach name was used because it was the ne plus ultra of German luxury cars in the 20's and thirties. Yes, there was the "Grosser Mercedes" but the head of the Reichsbank and other, ahem "government" officials" were chauffered around in Maybachs. DCX obviously brought it back to trump the ace of Rolls-Royce and BMW.
As far as the comparison to Bentley, Bentley's are fantastic cars, but they are driver oriented. To me at least, it seems obvious that the Maybach is meant to have the owner cocooned in the back seat reading the WSJ and plotting a multi billion dollar takeover.
Ah to be rich.....:-)

You know you're German if:
You went to school in a Gymnasium
You check your shoes for candy on December 6
You have real candles on your Christmas tree
You know a Frankfurter is a person not a hotdog
Schnitzel with noodles is your favorite meal, not a song in a cheesy musical!
You drive the Autobahn in a Mercedes-Benz at the speed of sound!
A few years ago, when Dr. Dieter Zetsche was named DCX Chairman, he pondered in an interview what to do with the Maybach and Smart Brands. He said he felt the Smart Car wasn't selling well because car buyers did not know it was a Mercedes. So he did European commercials promoting it as part of the DaimlerChrysler family and sales improved greatly, and are still selling well. In a few months, the Smart comes to the US, being sold exclusively by the Penske Auto Group, which has over 300 dealerships across the US.
To say that rich folks don't know that the Maybach is a Mercedes is absolutely correct. I live in a pretty nice area of SoCal and my neighbor had rented a limo for the night. She got a Maybach 62 but later complained to me that she had wanted an S Class Mercedes. She had not a clue that the Maybach was a Mercedes. She had never heard of a Maybach and didn't like the way it looked. I wanted to throttle her....lol...because as a very rich woman.....she was clueless.
Back to the article with Dr. Zetsche. He said he was seriously considering reigning in the Maybach and Smart brands and badging them with the star on the trunk. I think it would definitely help sales. What do you guys think?
