i used to work in Sindelfingen at the MB factory in the early 70's. along with a predominate ethnic workforce from countries like turkey, italy and all of the rest of the european countries..we worked there, because they paid good...we drank bier on breaks, smoked while laying down a beat of weld on a center beam or hammered out a fender from a piece of sheet metal traped over a form made from hardwood. we worked hard and we made the worlds finest cars. we had pride and we had something to show for at the end of the day, and most of us drove the cars we built. my dad worked there for almost 30 years and swore the 124 was a mistake. it was built so good they didnt realize that until the dealers complaint that they didnt have any work to do on them at all.
another one was the 230 engine. it never quit..
now to this maybach fiasco. its sheet metal folks. tricked out with a few bells and whistles. made for peole that have to compansate for a small part of their anatomy, by showing the world they are rich enough to blow a wad on something that is totally overpriced...my dad used to get so mad, because i used his "good" chamy on my VW. he bought one just for the windows on his 300E.( that was his way of showing me how much he thought his car was worth). its about pride and ownership, not the pricetag of a hunk of metal. most people that can afford a Maybach can also aford a lear jet..hell of a lot nicer then a car, and a little faster too..and i think it comes with chrome cupholders......geeze people...Maybachs, RR, ferarri, porsche...they are all modes of transportation.. as are all the other makes available today. look at all the bitching in this forum. bulgarians angainst greeks..please folks, this is why the world is so messed up. everybody wants to be better then the next person. just like the cars we drive..we too are all made the same. wehn it comes down to it..we all turn into worm food..we are all humans, the only thing different is, how we treat our fellow neighbors and our families...
so..as a guy that used to pound out about 150 fender wells a week and took home a decent paycheck doing it....you all have a great weekend and enjoy the gits God gave us to make us happy!!
lets have some fun driving our Benz's.....
I really enjoyed your post sagamol and you are, of course, completely correct about all you say - people are so preoccupied with status today (I think they always have been though) - insecurity is a fundamental part of the human condition.
I totally agree with you 200%. The only thing that seperate human is our blood type. If I was to get a blood tranfusion from one of my parent it will kill me, yet a differnt person with differnt skin color could same my life. This is hard for me to explain hope you understand it

Totally agreed. Though I think I'll be misunderstood when I tell the same story to most people in my street (they all drive something bigger than a Maybach in their (limited) free time - a Ford F-350 or Winnebago)

So, why drive anything more than a Toyota Corolla?
It’s safe and dependable.
I don’t believe having a nice car, or nice things in general, for that matter, is all about status even compensating for a deficiency in one's anatomy. In America, most of the citizenry is past need.
(Unfortunately, not all.)
However, how much money one chooses to make, the lifestyle they choose to live, etc., is in the category of choice. I try not to begrudge people for their choices.
Besides, what matters is what’s going on inside your head. For example, ome one driving down the road in an MB could be groovin' on the driving dynamics of their ride and wishing more people could have such a nice car.
On the other hand, someone in a Focus (I have a Focus too) could have their head up their arse thinking about how much better they are because they don't drive a 'ricer'
Every human on the planet wants nice things and there is nothing evil about nice things.
No, I don't buy this humble pie stuff. There is nothing inherently bad about nice things, money or anything else for that mater: it's how one relates to it that matters.
I have no reason to believe that Sagamol is jealous, but I know from living this life that complaints about the rich often do stem from envy and jealousy- so don’t be so naïve to think its not a possibility.
