RE: Armoured Maybach

There is your armoured Maybach.
Must be a special feeling to empty the clip of a 44 Magnum on a 900.000 Euro car

well do u think that car is actually 900K to produce.. heck no.. DCX just sells it way over priced bcuz of its trademark "maybach"

in todays world of machines and computers.. that maybach can be well producted at an automated plant for pretty cheap and used for testing purpose.. how ever when it comes to supplying maybach to real customer.. then all the customs of maybach should be taken care of...and hand building comes in place!

RE: Armoured Maybach

I don't think a B4 Maybach Guard would cost 900,000 Euros. Natant, where did you read that? That is a very steep price for mere B4 protection. The base 62 costs about 400,000 Euros plus VAT. This Guard version costs 100% more even though it's only protected against handguns. It can't stop more than a .44 Magnum.

For 900,000 Euros you can build a much safer and much higher-level armoured vehicle.

RE: Armoured Maybach

Well there's lots of rumours about the price of the guard Maybachs but even if it's cheaper it still would be nice to shoot one to bits [:D]

I don't know the exact level of protection you get from B4 but I know there are many weapons and amo types to kill somebody in an armoured car without using explosives.

Look at a Barrett M82A1 (below). That's a .50 caliber for competition use but I can asure you that you will shoot right through an armoured side window or door. Same for a .480 Ruger revolver. You can simply switch of the engine with a gun like that and then take your time on the people inside the car.

An armoured car is just a safety net to keep away the first bullets but if people are after you and you really fear for you life there's no armoured car that can protect you. Not even an Abrams tank...

RE: Armoured Maybach

For B4 level, you are protected basically against handguns up to .44 Magnum and submachine guns but no more. Assault rifles will go through the armour quite easily. The sheet metal of the cars is reinforced only with kevlar and that won't hold back a 7.62 round. Oh yeah, it's not much use against explosives

As for the Barrett and other .50 calibre rifles, it will go through "most" armoured vehicles. Still there are armoured cars that can stop it though you need to get them custom built. The .50 round can be stopped with 2.5-inches or 63-mm of armoured glass and probably 1-inch of special steel, but not many armoured vehicles have armour that thick so you need to build it in the aftermarket. The armour piercing .50 calibre can too be stopped with but you'll need a car with windows as thick as a phonebook. The .50 is a beast.

I agree that if someone really truly out to kill you, it's likely that you won't escape each time unless you have a huge advantage in terms of the number of people protecting you versus the number trying to send you to the morgue.

I doubt that the testing Maybachs are built by computers, it would take quite a bit of money to refit the machines to make a few Maybachs.

I would personally rather have an Audi A8 security version - the A8 is much cooler and more sophisticated.

They are optional - the car is intended for use by high-ranking political and diplomatic figures - so the vehicles will likely be used in police-escorted motorcades etc. - the whole impression is very official - and very cool too I think.
