One of the things that we wanted on our GL450 was the chrome pkg (can't recall what the option was called) but didn't work out. Anyone have any experience with getting after market chrome trims?

There is no aftermarket chrome trim for GL as I researched. I DIYed all the OEM chrome parts except for the foglights and roofbar (these two simply add too much chromy IMO, I don't want make my GL look like a big cheesy Escalade;-)...)

Are they pretty easy to DIY? Any good threads on how to do them? Yeah, too much chrome makes cars look cheesy. The window trim and the front/back chrome(if that's even doable) would suit me fine. Thanks!

that's what i did - windows sill, front & rear skid plates, door handle shells and rear bumper step plate. except for the front skid plate which requirs removal of entire front bumper, the rest mods were all entry-level DIYs, however i did have to be very careful when working on them to mk sure not to scrath any piant on the $55k purchase..
A good appoach is taking easy ones 1st and leave front skid plate to the end.
let me know if you have Qs. or shot me email.

Okay, I'm about to do this! I'm pretty confident with the running boards, but I could use some pointers on taking off/installing the chrome step on the rear bumper and the installation tips for the rear chrome skid plate. Any drilling involved installing the rear skid plate?
As for the chrome door sills, where did you buy them? Again, thanks for your help!

Drilling is required for both front and rear skid plates but they are minor. I have used a few sellers but I went OE Discount Parts for the best prices!

On a similiar note, can anyone tell me what the part numbers are for the chrome fog light covers and the oval shaped bulbs are? I've called around and the dealers can't even tell me. Part #1648851223 just comes up as "covering" and the dealer can't tell me if it's a chrome fog light cover.

Thanks for the info. These fog lights are actually around $133 ea. since they are "w/corner illumination". I guess there aren't any OE fixed oval shaped fog lights. I found a replacement fog light without the corner illumination (fixed oval shape) online and on ebay but passenger side lights are all sold out. I'll have to keep checking back to see if they have them in stock. If anyone knows where to find these, please post them. Thanks.
