I am negotiating a deal on a new 09 GL450. Given the fact that this beast has more electronics than all of my other cars combined, I am seriously considering extended warranty. If you bought one, can you post term, price, and whether you regret getting it.
Also, as far as I know, warranty prices are negotiable if bought from a MB dealer, right?
In general, and this applies to ALL extended warranties, don't even think about it until your new car warranty is nearly up. And then, buy ONLY from the manufacturer - reason; you have no way of telling the financial condition of the company issuing the warranty paperwork. It is a type of insurance policy, you are betting the parts on the car will fail and they are betting the parts covered won't fail. If they are not around to collect from when you win the bet -- you lose even when you win!
Like any insurance, only insure what you cannot afford to fix out of your own pocket.

Reason: grammar
The cheapest I found so far is $3.4k for 7/75 from MB. If anyone knows of a better deal, please let me know.
Thanks
When I was negotiating the purchase of my used GL450, I was able to get a 50/50 split on the price of an extended warranty from the MB dealer (I'm in Canada). I didn't end up buying from that dealer and instead bought a newer GL450 that was Star Certified (and hence comes with an extended warranty). The cost of the extended warranty was $3400, same as you've been quoted. It says on the MB website under the warranty section that 'dealer may offer for less'.
I would echo the comments to buy from the MB dealer.
