Cold AC for middle passengers

A "new" fault has been found for my 2008 GL320.

My poor daughter, relegated to the seat behind shotgun was complaining about being cold all of the time. Even when we went past Hayes, KS last week and the outside temp indicator showed 105F on I 70.
Yesterday came the revelation! I had the cabin temp set to 76F up front, my daughter at 78F behind us. We stopped at a friend's house and when we restarted, the rear dial was no longer at 78F. When the car was restarted, the temp defaulted to 72F!!! No wonder she was always cold!

Is this supposed to happen? Is there no memory back there? I cannot see or change the dial from the driver's seat, though I can check the setting from the dash. Thanks a lot MBZ, your designers took too many coffee breaks.

This is a great driver's car, except for the comand center and lack of gauges.
The little gremlins come and go at will.

You set the rear temperature up front on the temperature dials.

I found that the gremlins in my climate control system are members of my own family fumbling with the dials not knowing what they are doing.

I agree with the fiddling, but think that the MBZ bean counters have too much control. If the temp settings are in memory for the front 2 zones, why not the rear seat passengers?

And, those in the way back don't get any perqs at all, none, zero, zip.
I wonder if MBX has any lay people on their staff that actually use these cars...
