Easy to Remove Running Boards?

Many of the new GL450's come with running boards, either as a separate option or with the Appearance Package.

I would want a GL450 without running boards as I tend to drag my calf across them when getting in and out of the car.

Does anyone know if it is easy to remove the running boards, and if there are any visual signs that the running boards were there after you take them off (mounting holes or other evidence of the mounting)?

Thank you.

The running boards are intended for use as a step, which if so used, may alleviate your dilema.

Good question. I just upgraded from 2007 leased R320CDI to a GL320CDI with running boards. This was a demonstrator with running boards but at 6'-3" I hardly need to step up on a running board and then duck to get in the door. Any ideas or answers to the question?

I hear you tompat42. At 6'5 I share in your experience. I too had the same problem as DDLY, especially when wearing a suit...that is until I started stepping directly onto the runningboard. Initially, was scared it wouldnt hold my weight 240, but it did without hesitation. In any event it takes a bit getting used to. Some models have a "comfort feature" whereby the vehicle will actually lower itself during the entry/egress process - this can be set by scrolling throught the controls on the steering wheel. I'm glad I kept the running boars as they are visually appealing and functional nonetheless.
