Replacement Tires & Brakes

I am now in the market for replacement tires and brakes & perhaps rotors.

The local dealer told me I've got about another 4,000 miles on the current tires. Are there any good tires other than the OEM tires I should look at? I have the 19 inch wheels.

I have about 30% left on the brake pads, again the same question. Is there a good route I can go for aftermarket brake pads? Perhaps ceramic?

The dealer stated that I have hot spots on the rotors and am in need of new rotors. Can I get them aftermarket also?

I searched the forums and didn't find much in the way of these questions.

Any and all help is appreciated.

Thanks

As far as the tire question goes - check the Tire Rack website for your size tires. They have survey results which are a good guide about the models and brand of tires you might consider. The problems , mpg and hydroplaning, I've had with my 19" Continentals will make me consider ANYTHING BUT Conti's when I have to buy new tires.

I personally just put the amg 21 wheels with the conti on my car from the 19 inch pirelli p zero....i never thought id say this but the 21 wheels make the car drive like a completely different car....very smooth, and of all things quiet....when i first picked the car up about a month ago i was happy to see pirelli vs conti and i also thouht the bigger the wheel the worse the ride became...it is completely opposite here and i dont know why but im not complaining.

I agree 100%. I have Antera 22" X 10" wheels with Perelli P Zero tires. The ride is fantastic and I know that I will do better with tire mileage vs. the Contis.

Have you read the following contained in the "technical data" area of your owner's manual?

Quote:
Only use tires which have been tested and approved by Mercedes-Benz. Tires approved by Mercedes-Benz are developed to provide best possible performance in conjunction with the driving safety systems on your vehicle such as ABS or ESP®. Tires specially developed for your vehicle and tested and approved by Mercedes-Benz can be identified by finding the following on the tire’s sidewall:

MO = Mercedes-Benz Original equipment tires

Using tires other than those approved by Mercedes-Benz may result in damage that is not covered by the Mercedes-Benz Limited Warranty.

It DOES sound like a CYA disclaimer. What about the 19" Conti's that are OEM from the factory, Hydroplane like crazy and are therefore extremely dangerous. M-B won't replace! Hows that for 'factory chosen'?

Written by Legal, Conti's "chosen" because of cheap wholesale pricing.

There have been "Mercedes-specification" tires available off and on for over 30 years.

I had them on my 1978 300D. On our 1988 300E.

No, what's really dumb here is lack of engineering concern for the vehicle you drive--instead it's all about price and looks. Funny thing is that the second set of tires on a Mercedes is probably 80% of the time lesser quality than those on it when sold new. I can recall all the 450SLs that came with VR-rated Michelins that were $150 each (at the time really expensive) all replaced with whitewall Sears Roadhandlers.

All wide tires hydroplane by definition. Especially when they're labeled "all-season." (The knowledgeable call these "no season.") That's why snow tires are always specified narrower.

No question Michelin's better than Continental, of course.

Especially lease turn-ins, coming back with adequate tread on down-graded tires.
