GL420 Bluetech

All:
i was looking to get the GL 450 but i read about GL420 Bluetech. the question i have is how do i find a pump with Ultra Low Sulpher Diesel. i live in San jose CA. Is it worth waiting for Bluetech 420 which is supposed to be out in fall 2008.

Thanks

Do they not have ULSD in California yet? Just about all the diesel sold here in TX is now ULSD.

That 420 should be a pretty nice setup. If you can wait, I think it will be well worth it. I feel it's going to move this machine much better than the GL320 does and should be more in line with power / acceleration with the GL450 but with the added benefit of great gas mileage.

thanks i called a few gas stations and they told me that the diesel in CA must be ULSD. many pumps say they sell Diesel#2 but in reality it is ULSD. so i am cool in CA. when i called chevron they told me that out side CA ULSD is clearly marked as LSD is also sold.
So now i will wait till fall 2008 for GL420. i hope the price is not ridicously high.
But looking at the current setup GL320 is actually $2000 less than GL 450. We really liked GL450 except for the navigation, i like touch screen.

Don't hold your breath waiting for the V8 diesel--it isn't going to be sold in the USA.

The V6 is plenty fine.

The GL420CDI has existed since the beginning of GL production.

Every time a manufacturer adds another drivetrain for sale it costs big bucks in USA certification.

This is why the offroad package is only available in USA in the GL450 whereas it's standard equipment with all engines in, for example, the UK.

The V6 will be eventually 50-state certified and that's what you'll be able to get.

You CAN use the GL320 CDI in California! The only condition is that it must have 7500 mi on it before you can license it. Buy one out of state with 8000 mi and be happy! (Good luck finding one with exactly the options you want, color, etc). Of course the same applies if you try to find one at a dealer. They are RARE. Dealers DO have some used 320 CDIs the bring in from the Florida auctions. Check with the dealer in Escondido and have him get one for you.

Note: I think the California one-time fee for registering out-of-state non-CA compliant vehicles was abolished.

so is it worth the wait. i mean when i read the article on edmunds they said 290 hp with 500 pounds of torque. V6 cannot produce this unless the engine is changed. hence it has to be a different engine.

as i know that the 1st year prod is always a problem for other car makers.
How is MB quality compared to other cars like japanese ones. that decides if it is wrth the wait, and i hope the wait is not 2 years else i will get the GL450 now.

You're really having problems with this.

GL has been out since 2006--any "first year production problems" are long since past.

The V8 diesel has been out since 2005.

"Bluetec" is nothing but some stuff added on to the exhuast pipe--it's NOT a new engine and it's NOT a new car.

There's NOT going to be a new GL in 2009 and there's NOT going to be any new diesel engines in 2009.

The V8 WILL NOT be sold in the USA--you will be waiting for the V6 to be "bluetec'd."
