Looking for running boards

Hi,

I am going to order the PE running boards for my GL. My dealer wants $1088 for these + tax and labor.
I think I can install them myself.
Now too bad for my dealer... but I will shop somewhere else to save a couple of hundreds. I know MB dealers have a HUGE margin on parts. I saw a price of $750 on this forum. Anyone who can help or is willing to sell to me?
Part number 6-6-88-0630

Thanks Bart

I am interested here as well. I have looked at the 'factory' running boards and prefer them to the factory dealer accessory (add-on) ones. The factory ones have little black rubber 'knobbies' on them, while the accesory ones do not. Has anyone added the factory variety? Does anyone have part number and cost info for the parts required to perform such an addition? Thx in advance...

Gl 450 Running Boards

I had the PE Running Boards installed on my GL 450 last year by MB. They are chrome with the little rubber nubbins. They look great. I was at the MB dealership last week and saw a new GL 550 on the showroom floor. The running boards come standard on the 550. However, they are not chrome, but instead, brushed or mat finished metal. This does not look as good as the chrome finish. If my option it looks bad. I just know that they will look dirty with any weather or dust. If you order the running boards, specify the "chrome running boards".
I had the chrome roof rails installed at the same time. My invoice shows 15 part numbers, so I can not tell you what the part # are for the running boards. it is all just numbers without any description.
