Well to start with, our GL 450 is beautiful. Capri Blue with Macadamia Interior. Now here's my gripe. At only 8000 miles we have accumulated the following problems:
1. Alignment is terrible. Have had it to the dealer twice and it continually pulls to the right. I have the keep the steering wheel in check all of the time or I'm off the road. I'm tired of the dealer telling me it's the tire air pressure, or the road curvature or some other line of crapola. I live on the planet Earth and drive other vehicles and have not had this problem.
2. We have an error that the Airmatic system has malfunctioned and the ride is awful. It tells us "Compressor Cooling Down" and "Malfunction" What??? Going to the dealer tomorrow.
3. I have had to put my 2nd quart of oil in because somehow it is getting burned up. Dealer has looked at it already and wants to look at it again.
4. The parking sensors go off for no reason. When we come to a stop the red lights go off on the front and nothing is there, but the beeps go off. We don't even see the leading yellow lights come on. Just the red lights and the beep.
5. I hadn't realized this earlier, but whenever we start the car, the windshield wiper blades go on. Now, I do have it set for rain sensitive, but I don't remember it doing this before.
6. The worst of it is the paint. I had a chip on the hood from a small pebble in the road about 3-4 months ago that left a mark about 1/16 of an inch (couldn't hardly see it). The clear coat started peeling up off of the car for about 2 inches!! The MB office saw the pictures and told the dealer they would definitely fix it for us and we have to take it to the dealer this week and get a loaner Nissan, again.
I really enjoy the GL and it's prestige, but man, I'm getting tired of sharing my car with the MB technicians...
I was talking to my wife about this being the first year release of this model and I believe MB has a lot of things to consider getting changed on this vehicle. I would still recommend one to anyone, but I sure hope they get my "bugs" fixed. I have to say that my salesguy is great and very helpful, but the service manager needs some training in people skills.
Maybe I should just trade it in on a GL550 or 08 GL450 .
I have had it in twice for pulling to the right. The second time it was during a 2500 mile trip we took from LA to Wyoming. Talk about getting old fast. Now they don;t want to do anything until I put the new tires on.
Also, while at the dealership the first time for an alignment the right front strut blew on the airmatic and they had it for a week waiting on parts.
I recommend that you file a report with Dealer Rater.com.
Allow other perspective buyers a disclosure on your dealings with the dealer on how they sold you the vehicle and NOW, how they treat you with customer service.

Friday I noticed the front end of my GL was almost sitting on the ground again. I figured the airmatic system had gone out again (first time 3,000 miles). But I took it in and it turned out to only be a fuse. But something made that fuse blow. No complaints at all about my dealer--got a loaner and all was well.
Just curious, but what kind of loaner are you all getting when you need service? My dealer says that "Mercedes" doesn't provide for loaners and they have to give me a Nissan from their Nissan lot. Personally I thinks it's the dealers responsibility to provide me a loaner and not the policy of Mercedes. What do you think?
Loaners are dealer's responsibility and most good dealers will give you an MB loaner. I haven't had a GL loaner yet but C230 loaners are very common in SoCal.

Haven't seen Gl loaner, but besides C230, lots of R350 as loaners too.
Now I remember why I swore I was never getting another MB again, the car might be great, most of the time, but my first ML spent a lot of time in the service dept, and I didn't always get a loaner.
When I had an Acura they treated me great, a loaner each time, even with a regular service, I loved it when they gave me the integra or rx. That Acura spent a lot of time in service, but because of the driver seat, it was weird how the reclining mechanism got stuck so many times, they changed seats twice.
From the only MB in town I never got an MB as loaner, except once they gave me the 230, then it was a Cadillac, a Mitsu, and even a Chevy truck.
I never needed a loaner from Honda, and never has been in the service dept for more than half day because it was pulling to the right, and they offered me a civic, but I had a back up car.
I've had a Toyota for 18 months, and never been in the service dept, except for oil and filter changes, and lube service.
Now I'm having seconds thoughts, or thirds or fourths about buying the GL320.
I'll go see a Tundra tonight.

My dealer loaned me a mercedes station wagon. I really didn't care for it at all but was glad to have the opportunity to test it out. I was surprised how much I missed the satelite radio.

Interesting... our Mercedes dealer has over 200 Mercedes as loaners.
Mercedes is not the most reliable car in the market today, but is one of the safest on the road. Toyota in general has been excellent in terms of trouble free, but the Tundra has had its share of problems. If it come a choice between safety or reliability, I choose safety.
