After test driving the gl for a few hours, i noticed that the front seat backs had rather firm and pronounced side supports..so much so that i found them to be uncomfortable after a while....has anyone noticed this also?? I am coming from a LX470 which has less pronounced supports on the seat backs, and i think wider seats anyways.

I've driven quite a bit in the ML seats, which i believe to be the same, and have actually thought them quite comfortable, ie I like the side bolsters. Perhaps you should try the multicontour seats to see if that helps at all.
I like the seat in my GL, esp the napa leather finish in the Prem Ed... would think they will be offering this as an option at some pt soon (if not already?)... but do prefer the seat in the SL550,,, more support, comfort. Both good but different
