Could someone please go out to their GL and press the "Height"/ "Lower" button and see it the car raises the stated 3 inches.
I have a Premiere and it has the button that jyst has a picture of the car and an "up" arrow. You're suppose to be able to press it and the car raise 3 inches???? I think.????
But in reality I think what its really saying is that the car will "Raise"/"Lower" a MAXIMUM of 3 inches if it is in its "Lowest / "Highest" position.
For instance drive the car at highway speed, the car goes to its lowest position. Pull over, stop the car and press the button. The car should raise , I guess, the full three inches. Now, press the button again and the car should lower 3 inches. However, and again, I THINK, if you drive the car home and let it sit in the garage, it settles its self into a medium "resting" shock height. If you then start the car and press the button while the car has been sitting in the garage for a period of time, the car only raise/lowers about an inch. I can only confirm this last bit, not the entire story yet. So if one of you would be so kind as to go out, start your car and press the button, that yould clear things up(I hope) and either confirm or negate my need for a trip to the stealer for a much regretted service call. I mean those guys don't know shit about this vehicle. And the "I" button in the arm rest...fagetaboutit! I got some chickie on the horn reading the damn manual to me and I'm like, you idiot!, I already read the damn manual, just tell me how the hell its suppose to work and I'll go on frm there. Thanks in advance.
Part 2 - When I first got the car, It seemed as though the car wiould adjust ride height back up every time I would come to a stop light provided I had reached speeds over 40mph or so. Does your car also do this. I really don't drive it that often and have probably gotten used to it if its still doing it. If its doing it, does anyone know if that's the way its suppose to work. I want a ride height "Off" button. I only want it to ride in lowest position
answer for your PART2 : your GL450 LOWERS the front air suspension (for your confort) when you brake little bit harder. then it raises back to normal when the car ir fully stopped . thats the time you feel the height adjustment
I have a Premier Edition as well and haven't noticed the behavior that you are describing. Mine does indeed raise the full 3 inches when I press the button and will drop back to normal when I press it again. When I hit 50 mph, the ride height settles back to low. The interesting thing is that if I travel at anything over 40 mph for an extended period, it will also settle back to low. I have not seen or noticed anything indicating a medium or middle position. It's either all the way up or all the way down. Also, whenever the suspension is altering ride height, the airmatic display in the center will tell you what is going on (raising or lowering) and the red light on the airmatic button will flash. I have never seen the car temporarily "settle" when parked. If your car is doing that, you may have an air leak. Although it might be possible, I have never felt the car "adjust" the front ride height under braking. Are you sure about this? As far as the raised ride height goes, it's really just for ground clearance. I will admit the car looks great raised and it's really nice for driving in traffic for extra visibility but the ride is way too harsh and bouncy in raised mode. Try hitting a speed bump or a dip with the car raised and you'll know what I mean.
