RE: Synthetic Oil... What weight/viscosity to use?

P.S. It's just motor oil, not a completely redesigned, revolutionary engine or transmission, etc.. or even a brand-spanking new one of the same part number, for that matter.

The improvements anyone gains from any motor oil may not be statistically significant (95% confidence limits) for the average consumer over the short period of time they own a particular vehicle. Fleets and racing engines may be another story.

RE: Synthetic Oil... What weight/viscosity to use?

"I am curious. What specialty brand of products are available in Europe (Norway)?"

Well, we have Esso, (Exxon-Mobil), HydroTexaco, Shell, and Statoil as representatives for the majors. Untill recently we had Fina, which has a very popular diesel luboil called Kappa. BP also sells oil, but it's complicated to get hold of.

Brands you can get at different supply stores and chains are, Biltema (Statoil), Blåtind, Castrol, CD Cardic, Comma, Motul, Quaker State, Pennzoil, Reginol, Sunoco (I've used that a lot), and Valvoline.

As for spesial oils we have Febi Bilstein (brand), Fuchs (hard to get), Omega, Redline, Royal Purple, and certain dealers can get some other brands as well.

That's what I could think of.

In Germany there are plenty more brands. Mobil1 is very popular among MB owners over here. I have been using Esso since 1998, mostly because of rebates through work. Lately I have tried Pennzoil, and I currently use it in the 190's and the 300. Seems OK to me. The truck (MB 1320) runs on Statoil Powerway 15-40.
