Small 1/3 inch fan in S class roof???

There is a small fan (i think thats what it is) that is located in the front seat light console above your head in the centre, what does it actually do ? what is its job? Up until recently it never made a noise but over the last couple of months it makes a constant spinning noise which is driving me insane. It is located in what looks to be a blanked of switch with tiny slits in it, I have looked through the manual several times and asked around but nobody knows, please help me!!

thanks For your help

small fan?

what a small fan does is... ask for a tiny autograph.

you didn't mention what year your s-class is.
in my 1984 500SEC there is a 1"x1" plastic cover plate that has 4 horizontal slots. what it is is the cover for the interior temperature sensor for the climate control.
