1959 220 SE Sedan

Need help! We are trying to determine the history of this vehicle in the USA. We have the vin #128010-10-9501112. Cannot see the engine number. This is most likely a southern USA registration. Called MB Classic and asked for help. This sedan is currently painted cream over maroon. Current mileage is 92,102. If you know of this car or can offer information, I will much appreciate it!

Re: 1959 220 SE Sedan

Dear Ed,

I tried both my State Farm Insurance Broker and my law Enforcement connections, and BOTH of them said that their computers choked and returned the following error: 'VIN is less than 17 characters in length.' The www.carfax.com and www.autocheck.com websites also return this error. VIN's in California were 17 chars long as far back as 1955 (we used to 'pad' older ones with leading zeros). I cannot confirm if this length is universal, however (I think carfax only goes back to 1981!).
Sorry that this is all negative info, but maybe you could double-check the VIN and see if somebody missed a couple of characters?

Good Luck,
Rex

Rex, I did the same. I don't know why this is coming back this way, but the Vintage Mercedes-Benz information line tells me this is the correct VIN. They will also check with me to provide the engine number since we van't see it for all the age and grime.

Re: 1959 220 SE Sedan

Manfred at MB Classic confirms the engine number is #127980109501248. Also the plant location of manufacture was Glasurit. Original paint was #190 Graphite Gray. The engine and vin match as original. The data card copy is available for verification purposes for the car.
