138mph still pulling and very solid. Just too scared to get pulled over by a cop when I'm only 17.

I've done 240 Kph (around 142) but we don't have traffic cops hidding behind Billboards. I live in Dubai, U.A.E (middle east) and they have photo raders after every mile or so. All you can do is wait till you are out on the highway where the raders are much fruther away and then hit the paddle. I am told my car can do 260 kph. I have Z rated tires and I was late for work if any ones wondering [V] I couldnt feel the speed..seemed like I am going 100 mph (rougly 160 KPH)

btw pics here beow incase you haven't visited the C class section:

Just ran across this post (better late than never, eh?).

<LOL> You should have seen the speeds I could hit (in a mere 280 ZX 2+2) from Al-Ain to Abu Dhabi. This was way back in 1979-1981. Great road, VERY few police, but this had to be accomplished between the speed bumps and even round-abouts out in the middle of nowhere. <heavy sigh> (^.^)

Well most of the time I do 45mph or less. On road trips however I average about 90-100 mph not even close to what she can do, but hey I am a law abiding citizen.

I have to be extra cautious. In February 2005, I got ticketed on the Golden Gate bridge for going 55 MPH (10 over the limit). Traffic school kept the points off my record, but if I get trapped again...

The fastest I have driven my Benz is 100, with the top retracted. I'm sure the car will go much faster. I'm not sure I could stand the wind buffeting or if the top would stay in one piece if I went 120 fully enclosed.

Cheers!

Dave

RE: How fast do you americans drive your Mercedeses?

While visiting my Dad in the mid-south U.S., his across-the-street neighbor stopped by to check out my car.
Questions why this 78 year-old lady being curious were answered when she invited all of us over to her place.
Parked in her climate controlled, checkered flag- linoleum floor-6 car garage were a Dusenburg, Porsche 911, BMW M-3, the Lexus convertible that looks like an oversized Boxster, a CLK, and the traditional Cadillac.
She demanded a joyride in the EVO1. (My wife gave me her,"television news anchorwoman ray").
We took off for the interstate.
When we saw the blue lights popping up in the mirrors, we were doing 130+. She yelled the next exit was a quarter mile ahead. I gave it more pedal and was picking up speed when we saw the exit and I started to brake. On the ramp I glanced at the speedometer and the needle was passing 140 on the way down.
Finally stopping, we caught a whiff of the Dunlop tires and watched a couple of State cops fly by above to the left...and one coming down the ramp.
She wanted to roll, but the blue lights were off now and it was too late to even think of an apology.
The thought of those lights being off flew through my mind as being weird.
He pulled up and stopped along the passenger side. His window came down, he took a long look at us and examined das tourenwagen.
Smiling, he shook his head and said, "take it easy tonight alright?"
The ride was great, but my wild-old-lady-new-best friend made the whole visit unforgettable.
Otherwise, leaving Manhattan & heading home on the Long Island Expressway,(pre-dawn early morning hours), I drive it in the 80-120 mph range all the time.
(The U.S.A. Autobahn). They don't give you a ticket for being too fast or slow. They give you the ticket for getting caught.

RE: How fast do you americans drive your Mercedeses?

On my '90 300e the fastest I've gotten up to is 95, and that was only when the highway was wide open with no-one on it. It was funny because it seemed like I was only doing 50 the way the car handled; truly amazing! I can recall driving an old '78 Dodge Colt in West Texas east of Ozona with my foot buried in the carburetor and the needle pegged at 85 and it felt like the car was literally going to explode! I think if I had driven it that way for longer than a few minutes I'd have thrown a rod. Seems like the 300e was born to fly...

RE: How fast do you americans drive your Mercedeses?

On the open highway, my C320 loves to cruise between 80-85mph, with plenty of power in reserve. I have taken her up to 120mph late at night.

Since these cars are designed for the Autobaun, they are ment to cruise at higher speeds than other cars in their class,

I have a 04 Clk 500 and it goes like no-bodys business. i've hit 137 MPH going past the Mercedes Benz of South Orlando Dealer. And the ONLY reason I didn;t go faster was because i was rapidly running out of road.

RE: How fast do you americans drive your Mercedeses?

boy am i green[:p]

my 240D blasts down the road at the break-neck speed of 70 miles per hour.

65 up hills.

60 up hills running the air conditioner.

it only takes 2 minutes to reach 70 and he has enough raw power left to attain a skin stretching 92 miles an hour.

that is down hill with a tail wind.

my neon cuts off at 118 and had 2500 rpms left at that speed. i got a ticket in abeline texas going 110 in this car. it was expensive.

the reason i bought the 240 was to force myself into obeying the law. it worked, but i got a ticket for changing lanes with no blinker(at midnight) instead.

you just cant win.
