Is it possible to adjust rain-sensor sensitivity?

I find my rain-sensor on my W210 not sensetive enough. According to my MB delaer it is not possible to adjust the sensitivity, but I have difficulties to believe that. I know that for example BMW rainsensor can be adjusted from the cock-pit, and would be surprised if the MB sensors was not calibrated sometime in the production.

Re: Is it possible to adjust rain-sensor sensitivity?

They are calibrated at the factory, after they are installed on the windshield but prior to installation in the car. Don't know if the calibration can be adjusted afterward but it probably can. It just may not be in the service manual, as special equipment may be needed to do it right. If you're under warranty, see if you can get them to replace it. If not try popping the cover off and see if there are any obvious adjustment screws.

Not to sound dumb, what is the 'sensor' located on the middle of the hood right below the wipers? Is that the rain sensor?????????

Nope, It's the infrared dot you barely see under the gradated dark tint just below and to the right of the rear view mirror (looking at the windshield from the outside). Not all MB have it; it's a fairly expensive option but worth every penny, even just for the 'cool' factor.

The sensor on the hood is for temperature and light metering (if you have auto lights).
I'm not sure of how true this is, but another thread talked about getting dealer to adjust rain sensor sensitivity.

And for me the option was only $200 Cdn., which seemed very cheap to me.
