I have a question about a car for sale

Hi, I am sorry if this question is not relavent, but i cannot find any other place to put it. But i have a friend that knows someone selling a 1988 Mercedes Benz convertable. Is there such thing as a convertable benz back in 1988? If so, does anyone know what the model is? The car for sale has barely been driven since it has 15,000 miles on it. It is selling for 10-12 thousand. I am not sure if the guy has his facts right, but is there any models with convt. in 1988? and if so, is that a good deal? Thank you

Re: I have a question about a car for sale

The only model that I know of that was built as a convertible in 1988 for the U.S. market was the 560SL. Outside the U.S., there were different variations on the 560SL based on engine size such as the 500SL. Here is a link from the Mercedes Benz website describing the 560SL. I happen to own a 1988 560SL and the car you describe would be a very good deal, maybe too good. Check the history to be safe. Good luck with the car! http://209.167.164.66/brand/container.jsp?/overview/overview_engine.jsp&yearModelCode=88_SL560CR&class =88_SL&rnav=024568&menu=0_4

Re: Re: Re: I have a question about a car for sale

Sorry but there was a 300CE in 1988, also don't forget about all of the Euro or 'Gray Market' cars that were brought in. The best way to find out what your friend has is to post or e-mail me with the V.I.N. number and I will be able to tell you what the car is. Thanks.<br> <br> Tony Downs<br> tony@bekkers.com

Re: Re: Re: Re: I have a question about a car for sale

In 1988, the 300CE only came in a coupe. AcuraGuy is asking about convertibles built in 1988. The cabriolet edition of the 300CE wasn't introduced into the U.S. until 1993. Unless the car was brought to an aftermarket shop, the only 'true convertible' in 1988 that I found on the Mercedes Benz USA website was the 560SL.

check out this used 88 560SL. It has 78000 miles on it and the dealer is asking $24k.<br> <br> Sounds like you have a deal too good to be true.
