how can I tell if my motor mounts are in need of replacement? Is replacement a DIY job?

Sometimes you can actually see the stain if the mount let go and fluid in the mount leaked out.

Also you will notice more noise and vibration inside the passenger compartment.

There are lots of images if you Google 2006 E320 engine mount that will show you what a collapsed/worn out mount looks like.

The mounts are a DIY job but will require a bunch of additional lifting tools, etc but can be done.

There should be a few threads on the search. I even did mine. Remember the motor mount passengers side top nut is a 16mm and you can get it with a 1/4 inch rachet BUT it's hard to find a 16mm socket in 1/4 inch so use a 3/8 inch 16mm with a 1/4 inch reducer. The 1/4 inch ratchet will turn the bolt and you don't have to remove the engine mount..
