Question E320 Wagon - Rear Hatch not Aligned

The rear hatch has an auto-close button. About half way down it stops and opens back up. That is, unless I push hard (sideways left to right) on teh door as it's going down. The gap between the door and the car should be even all the way around, but over time the gap between the door and the car has narrowed on the right side and widened on the left. This mis-alignment is (I believe) causing the sensors to stop the door from closing and reopen. Any thoughts on how to re-align the doors?

What year is it? I would like to move the thread to proper section for your chassis designation.

If it is newer than 2003 then it could actually be the hydraulic ram on one side or the other causing the issue.

A dealer will just clobber your wallet on this if is the hydraulic system. I would have a body shop take a look to see
if it is worn/loose hinge or the hydraulics. If it is the hydraulics then getting them them rebuilt is far cheaper than
buying new parts.
