Not for a guy who is programming MB keys

Wow, I don't blame you. That's a lot of issues for a new car.

You say your '05 S430 was a good car. I've always heard bad things about the car. You've had no issues out of it? I was going to buy one but shied away from it.
4matic was a good car. The non 4matics had the troublesome 722.9 transmissions. The 4matic 2005 and 2006 had the reliable 722.6.

You can get the $37 key from an MB dealer. That would be too easy, though.
Yeah, I can't argue that. My cousin had a 2002 ML320 that she bought new. I remember when she first got it, it seemed to have a lot of issues (while under warranty), but in later years it appeared to be problem free.

Also, unrelated, switchblade smart keys are only $37???

I think I've read that on here before. Something like the most reliable of the W220 were the 4Matic models and the MY2006 S350 because of their different engine/transmissions. Just assumed that wasn't so because I thought those engines had the balance shaft issues.

I don't think it would be a good idea for me to create a signature. It would probably just be some shameless plug about me being a Realtor.

A percentage of the engines had the issue. MB never released real fact based data, but the majority of them were fine.

No, that's different. That $37 key is referring to a coding key for ML320, which is a blade key only (no flip, no remote).

When I last checked, switchblade keys were out of stock. Not sure if they will order another batch.

Ah, okay. Now I understand what you mean. I was about to say... Why is non-switch blade smart key $300+.

Anyone else have any opinions on the best most reliable and worst unreliable of the US MY2000-2006 Benzes?

MB in last decade come with whole variety of keys and I think the switch-blade keys with 4 buttons remote cost about the same what knobs.
It is so-called service key, no remote that can be had for like 30-50 bucks.
Knobs with no remote were available as well, but last rumors say they were discontinued.

A knob with no remote? What is that? Like a regular smart key without buttons?

I'd have to disagree with the w203 being God awful. I understand some had issues, there was the Valeo radiator issue.. then there's the engine defect issue on the 1.8 4 cylinder engines where carbon would build up preventing the cylinder from seating properly causing a cylinder 2 misfire (my 03 c230 sport coupe does this) but my little work around to it is not letting it idle down while at a stop. Easy to keep it idling at about 1000 RPM since it's a manual. I'd suppose another negative would be the early generation w203 rear SAMs having the potential of blowing during a battery disconnect/reconnect.

Then my mother has an 05 c240 4matic sedan. It definitely has a nice feel and interior to it. Sort of makes me wish my coupe were the later generation.

Otherwise though, they've been super little cars to us.

Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.
