Mercedes Coding - For a Newbie!

Hi all,

I have come over from a BMW M5 where I used 'eSys' for coding it (where I could change parameters to enable/disable things, and change vehicle order to add new features, etc) and 'Rheingold' for just diagnostics and engineering manuals. The only equipment I needed was an RJ45 Ethernet --> OBD connector cable, and some software for my windows laptop.

Now I am completely new to Mercedes from a coding and diagnostic point of view. I have no idea how to get started, and if its as easy as BMW to get some simple cable that has USB or RJ45 on one end, and an OBD connector on the other. I've seen these diagnostic boxes online, but I'm only doing my own car so I don't need to have multiple connectors.

What would be the best way of getting;
1) The connection cable from my laptop to the car,
2) The software to code parameters, and to diagnose (are they the same program with Mercedes?)

Warm Regards,
Sunny

That will support the car for Basic ODB II functions, but will not work for proprietary MB codes or change parameters on his CL500.

Hi, thanks for the reply guys

Yeah I want to change parameters. For example, like this...

Not necessarily the speed limiter, but more about how there are lots of parameters that can be coded.

reading error codes

OK, i ended up with a mercedes ml320 by accident-my honda blew up after 14 years and this car was what the mechanic had to sell me cheap. i got a red thing on ebay for $20 bucks that i could plug into a thingie under the honda dash to read codes, and turn off the engink check light to get it smogged, does the mercedes use the same thing or do i have to get one that costs $400?

i used to sleep in the honda at the river, the passenger side went down to make a nice long bed. the mercedes is not meant to sleep in or eat in or move stuff in, or so far do much of anything in except drive....and i doubt it would do well off road to search out ghost hunts or track down ufo landings.....i am sure it is good for something but not anything i can afford on my disability income.

and i have had to move the woman's picture to the middle 5 times so far today and her i go again...
