Did you know.........

I was checking my tire pressure today on my C230K including the spare. Much to my dismay, the "donut" spare was completely flat. On closer examination, apparently the rubber tire stem failed (not the valve core).

No big deal I thought..........just take it to the tire store and have them replace it. DID YOU KNOW that the valve stem is a special size? It is smaller in diameter. A new one had to be specially ordered. The tech and owner of the shop said they never encountered this problem before!

DID YOU KNOW that the tire cover latch can be used to hold it in the up position?

Hot glue to the rescue again! Every one of these will no longer lock into place on all of my Mercedes

Holding cover latch originated in W124 era, so that makes it about 30 years old design.
I heard that some donut spares have weird valves, fortunately not in my cars.
I am replacing donut with full size anyway.
End yes >>> I am checking pressure in my spare at least once a year. Not rolling tire looses pressure faster than rolling one.
When tires on my car loose average 10 psi a year, the 60 psi spare often has 40-45 after a year.
Diesel Benz likes this.

I'm doing the same. Already did it for my wife's Honda. Bought two new front rims for the C230K and will use the current ones for spares (1 for C230K, 1 for CLK). Just need to squeeze a few more hundred miles out of the rear tires so I can buy a full new set.
