help needed to claim new car paint defect

I just got a new V class V220D W447 obsidian black from Indonesia dealer. Upon checking, I found there is some color difference between the sliding door and back panel

What do guys think went wrong in the production and does anyone have experience on how to claim Mercedes and what should we expect from them. So far the answer I received from Mercedes Indonesia was that the car has not been repainted

Is there any way I can escalate this issue so the German head office are aware and they can offer me a new car replacement.

Doubt it is factory defect.
More likely dealer repainted damaged car.
Such case in USA made one BMW buyer coming out with like $7,000,000 judgement.
Or was it only 4 mils?
Take the car to reputable body shop and have them check the car with magnify glass.

A body shop should also have a laser that can check the paint thickness. If it is different on mismatched panel then it was painted.
All of the new cars are painted by robots and the paint thickness is very uniform.

As the above post, that is a very different finish. the only parts that might have a slightly shade are the plastic parts, as they can be made in another factory.

In the UK where the dealer parking is more than often very tight, cars do get damaged and repaired.

I guess that these dealers think that Mr Average would not know.

Thanks all for joining in.

MB Indonesia gave me a call already and they are investigating this matter. They should arrange a meeting soon. Still at the moment, they claim that they car has not been repainted. I have return the car to the dealer so I will bring paint thickness gauge to check it also there

Do you think that I am entitle to get a new car replacement. Obviously, as I detail my own car, I will not accept if they offer me to repaint only the back panel. None paint job can be the same as original factory paint. I will be able to see orange peel, flakes different even though they can make the same color and shades. This is also the reason why I can find out the color difference at the first place. Yap, Mr Average will not be aware and MB Indonesia can get away

I am living in a country where customer protection law is not as strong as in the state. MB Indonesia will try to play some trick if I make a law suit and it will be time consuming and mostly even if I win in a few years court trial, they will just return the original purchase value.

Is there any way I can let the MB Germany Head office now about this ? They should be more responsible as this is about their brand image

Here is how it did work.
It was my second guess that it was only $4 millions in punitive damages.
USA is pretty unique with punitive damages laws, so don't expect that kind of money in Indonesia, but sounds like you have clear case to have serious lawyer involved.
How did you figure the Stuttgart is responsible for what happens in Indonesia?
Not even single cent from above $4 mil went to Germany.

thanks for the link

what I mean is, if MB Indonesia dare to make a bold statement " The car has not been repainted and received as the condition from Spain". Can this imply that this is a factory defect either only for my car or for all the V class within the lot no of production

I would like to make sure that MB Indonesia report the whole story to Stutttgart.

But then, after reading your link. I think I will prepare lawyer and see what they can do within the Indonesia customer protection law

The 2nd photo is from the other side of the car, assuming the photo is not a mirror image. If sliding doors from both sides are the exact same colour, this suggests factory error, as opposed to repaired damage.

Sliding doors must be painted at a different time to body and front doors. Either paint guy dialled in wrong colour, or somewhere else in the world is a greyish-black V-Class with violet-black rear doors.

Looks almost as good as a Corvette.....where the rear tupperware bumper meets the fender. Most interesting in the Silver and Black Cherry type of metallics.

I agree this does not look like MB quality that a customer should accept.

Best of luck.

It is not a mirror image. Both sliding door color is different from the body. I also think they painted these part separately and somebody mess up in the process

MB Indonesia has called again and we are working on a compensation out of court to settle this issue. These will be something like extra extended warranty and some extra interior parts. At least, they have show their goodwill and try to solve this without court judgement. I think I will settle for this and deal with the paint later on

But till now, they cant or wouldnt confirm whats go wrong with the paint. ha.ha
