Worried about replacement engine being installed

I have a 2011 c300 at the dealership getting an engine that my insurance company ordered from a salvage yard. I was told it has 35K miles on it but the dealer told me it needed a new water pump. Since when does a water pump go in 35K miles? Should I be worried that the salvage yard lied about the mileage. Is there any way to tie the serial number on the engine to the original cars VIN and then look up the vin to see how many miles the car had on it when it was totaled? Any advice would be appreciated.

I would get a compression test done, it won't cost much and will tell you a lot about the motor

Compression test, pan drop for inspection.
Things easy to do before spending big money.
What company push you for junk yard engine?
