Originally the 722.6 5-sp was "sealed for life". No fluid changes required, ever.

After they serviced a few, they found they all had tiny metal fragments in the pan. These fragments didn't get removed after initial machining, cleaning, and run-in at the factory. The recommendation then changed to fluid change and pan clean-out at the 3rd routine 13k service (in the USA, at 39 k miles), to be done once only. They also added a magnet to the pan, to catch these fragments.

Once-only trans service seems reasonable. Fluid changes every 60-100 k miles hasn't been proved to benefit anyone other than dealer's workshops and indie mechanic's balance sheets. Fluid changes every 40 k can only be bad for the environment and your hip pocket. Then there are some people who change their oil every 5 k.
