I'm looking for a copy of the WIS. I see several torrents on line but they talk about a key, which sounds like M-B provides the WIS software free but you have to buy a key (subscription) to use it. On the other hand, there are dozens available on eBay for $15 - $20 or so, which don't mention any key at all.
Are the ones sold on eBay legit? (they all say the picture is for illustration only and there is no case, a sure sign of copied disks) Are the torrents legit? Do any of them work or are they all a rip-off? Does M-B charge for the WIS and if so how much?
I don't think legit WIS available to owners exist.
Try this one. It is not perfect and the donation request can get annoying, but can't beat the price. Mercedes Benz Workshop Manuals
Just for what it might be worth, I bought a WIS/ASRA/EPC set on eBay a couple weeks ago. Was priced at $9.95 so I decided to buy it and find out what it is. What I got was 5 dual-layer dvd's and a set of extremely convoluted instructions. Long story short, it was a colossal PITA to install, you have to reconstitute all the files back together (which takes up an enormous 72 GB of space until that's done), then install VirtualBox in order to run the program. The thing runs on Windows XP inside VirtualBox, so essentially the sellers are re-selling unlicensed copies of Windows. Once fully installed it uses 37.2 GB of space. It does work okay and seems to be very comprehensive.
Frankly, driving MB for about 20 years and fixing several of them for family members, even when I find WIS for the job, the pictorials on forum are always better.
With newer cars finding forum pictorials is harder and harder, but still lot of help is possible.
When WIS will call for lot of $$$$ special tools, forum will tell you how to make home tools for the job.
Then most of the WIS start with "Plug Star Diagnosis into the car"
I was able to download a full copy of 6/2015 version of WIS/ASRA & EPC from a website called mhhauto.com after sweettalking via PM a forum member over there who was offering it as a torrent download that was password protected. It is essential material to have for any MB vehicle that is MY 2000 or new IMHO. Another s/w which I've found to be pretty useful is Star Finder that identifies components like a picture book. 2016 version of that one can be found here: http://service.machinesoft.ir/machineSoftserver/MercedesBenz/StarFinder.html
When you look at the Keyfinder website, you have to inquire on a parts group identified letter/number, but there appears no where to find say an engine oil filter specifically. Perhaps I am missing the key?
