newbie help with first benz!

Hey guys! just made a profile and signed on today! i apologize in advance for any noob comments or posts lol but i figured it would be great to get some feedback from any of you experienced owners! I've always had a love for older Mercedes cars and finally want to pull the trigger on a first purchase for a fun daily driver. heres a few links to what I've been looking at in my area,

any tips or advice would be amazing!

1979 Mercedes-Benz 280-Class AMG Package In Edgewood WA - Lucash Motors

1993 Mercedes-Benz 400-Class 400E 4dr Sedan In FEDERAL WAY WA - EVERGREEN SALES AND LEASE

so basically, between a 79 280, and a 93 400E
i like the V8 for a little more power and like the 90's era frame.
but the 79 looks awesome as well... what would be more practical as far as maintenance/ parts, or which might be more reliable as far as daily driver?
theres obviously a ton of late 90's class and early 2000's in the area but I've heard quite a bit of negative reviews in that range... I'm grateful for any comments or tips and thanks a ton for everybodys time! looking forward to joining the community with my first benz!

Not sure about the dealers you are working with. I am wary of the used car lots, as they get the cars at rock bottom prices and then toss them on the lot at retail prices. Private party sellers usually have more reliable cars at reasonable asking prices. My $0.02

Welcome to the asylum of Tri-star nuts.

The SLC (280) is not a really desirable. It is rare and sought after, as it was not sold in USA, and the car you posted is true ROTW but for the headlights. It looks nice, just not a sought after body (coupe) over the roadsters. I know of a really nice blue 380SL that is coming onto the market soon. If you are wanting a R107, get the Chris Bass book "The Essential Buyer's Guide Mercedes Benz 280-560SL & SLC"

The '99 C class is an ok car. A bit small if you have a need to transport more than two adults. Also would not retain value overly well, as they are baby benz and not really given the care the larger cars get. If the car were on a dealer lot instead of used car seller, I would be more inclined to purchase.

The best option would be the 400E. Good power, larger body style, last of the quality built models, but there may be wiring harness issues with the early 90's cars. Find out if the wire harness was changed out. Having the leather, the low enough miles, other options would keep you pretty happy driving this car. Make sure the AC has been serviced recently and that it is in perfect running condition.

PM if you would like to have help looking them over. I owned a W124 for years and drive an R107
