Delusional or not, we always tend to like stuff that we are good at, regardless if that makes logic sense to others.
I play with cars a lot, simply because I like it. I bought more than a dozen MB for me and my family members and they are the cheapest brand to drive ever.
I did own 1 Toyota, 1 BMW and 1 Porsche and don't plan to repeat the experience.
I did own 2 Oldsmobiles and would they still make those monster wagons, I would research it again.
For years I drive Ford Truck in my work and wife MB on weekends. Happen few times that I needed the same parts for Ford and Mercedes. Those for Ford have been always more expensive and I needed them more often.
The only exception was that I got whole set of ignition/door locks w/keys for Ford for about $60. I've got what I paid for.

If you can do your repairs, and you include purchase price in total price, then yes, MB is the cheapest brand to drive.

Most people can't do their own repairs, can't buy their own parts, and are in a situation where if their one car breaks down, they're in major trouble. For those people, Lexus is a much better option than Mercedes from any practical point of view.

How Lexus fuel economy compares to MB?
At one time I bought Audi, mainly for my son, but also for my ski trips as it was AWD.
I was hoping for better mpg, yet turned that smaller Audi hatchback burned more fuel than MB wagon 4Matic that was manufactured 4 years earlier.
Son loved red Audi, but I was kind of happy when the car was rear-ended and totaled, so I could gladly buy Mercedes for son.
