I've always been dubious of these. Years ago I owned a VW diesel in college. I was in college during a series of very cold winters. I had more tricks for starting that thing than i can remember. Blow torch on the fuel filter, extra batteries wired in series, and my favorite (and most effective) was that I cut a hole in the air filter box and put a rubber cork in it, I would pull out the cork and shove a cutting torch in there and turn on the oxygen. The car would start right up. The engine had about 235,000 miles on it before I hit a deer with it and decided to send it to the graveyard.
