Help Please With New Purchase Advice :-)

I've never owned, always wanted a MB. Now I'm ready (just had my 25th Bday), but lot's of questions!

I want to buy an E Class Sedan. Have somewhere in the neighborhood of 35K to budget for it, so am looking at used. Right now, leaning toward a CPO. Looking for advice from some of the more experienced than me!

1) Is CPO the way to go/worth the premium? If not.how/where would you reccomend buying one?
2) Any particular Model Years to consider more than others? Any to avoid?
3) Any "must haves"/highly desirable for optional equipment. I like "high tech" options if they are useful.
4) Would you recommend purchasing extended warranty and/or prepaid maintenance?
5) ANY advice that I didn't think of/mention?

Thanks in advance. Any and all help is DEEPLY appreciated! --- Anna

IMO if your budget is tight or you don't want any big hits then CPO is a good thing. They cost more up front for a used car, but in my case it saved me over $2k on my 2005 when I got it in 2009.

Unless you have handy significant other, you definitely need extended warranty.
Not knowing your location, we don't know what years of E the 35k can buy, but you can go on autotrader and do some research.
Once you narrow MY, you can go to appropriate section here and read common issues in stickies.
Some dealers also post on craigslist.

One caveat

Kajtek1 gives good advice but I would offer a caveat.

Be objective when reading owner experiences on this or any forum. Most do not post unless they are having problems and looking for help. The many more people who are experiencing trouble free enjoyment of the ride do not bother to post. The result can be a skewed view of reliability. I have a 2008 Bluetek that has been 100% trouble-free since we bought new.

MB is a great choice but I agree that dealer labor charges are very high. Someone willing to do minor servicing such as fluid changes, (you or a friend) would be helpful if you do not buy a service plan. For $35k you can definitely get a low mileage late model E-class. You can add ebay to your research sources.
