After year of dreaming about the SL, I finally could afford one and I purchased an SL 2003 a couple of days ago.
I was ready to pay some costs, I knew this was part of the game and I had set a stop loss total cost in mind.
Day one I dropped 2k USD on a transmission oil leak, and a few others items that can be considered general maintenance (oil, sparks, etc). I was not crying, I figured if the car drive for a year with litter cost, its a dream come true.
Welcome day two: I installed a Chinese head unit that looks like the original SL unit, this was given to me by the seller as the car had no head unit. The head unit came with a part that allows the steering wheel controls to work.
When I left the audio shop, a few miles later I get an ESP defective and ABS defective alerts (car was telling me to visit workshop). After several stop and restart the alerts went away.
My cigarrate lighter and radio stay on after I remove the key, until I open the door. Is this normal, does the ACC stay hot until a door is opened in an SL (i assume the shop connected the headunit correctly)?
Could the ABS and ESP errors be cause by a low battery due to having worked on the car for an hour at the audio shop? Could they be caused by the headunit itself having interfered with the cars electricals? Do I need to take the car for inspection now?
