I own a 1999 MB SL500. I took it to Best Buy auto geeks and transformed my fog lights into DRL's for 31 bucks !!! The guy was under the steering wheel for about 10 minutes.
I am very impressed both with the Best Buy guy and with my new daytime running lights.:smile :smile
If it could possibly start an electrical fire I would care. Did he simply wire the fog lights to an ACC wire so that they are on once you turn the ignition on? Does it interfere at all when you pull the light switch to turn on the fogs? Just because it's cheap doesn't mean anything. Your car wouldn't be the first to catch on fire after a great Best Buy geek squad installation.
Could it be he plug OBD and push few buttons to activate the option?
I know that is how it is done on newer cars, but 1999 is 1st generation of digital controls.
Per my memory, once you get to car settings, you have to change from US to Canadian destination. That will come with DRL.
At least that is how it work on ML.
