Camera and mounting suggestions wanted.

All of a sudden I have the urge to take some pictures from the car while making way. The various TV car shows seem to accomplish this quite easily with cameras mounted inside the driving compartment and attached outside the car, It is these views rather than a dash cam picture that I would be trying to replicate. If any of you have gone this route, I would appreciate learning what model of camera and type of mounting you have found to be most successful. Christmas is still a month away so I still have some time to make a final decision. Thanks.

A lot of shows you see on Discovery TV, History Channel and so many others use the newest GoPro 1080p HD cameras as they are released.
The just keep getting better with every revision. There are infinite ways to mount them. I would not use one on the outside of
car unless it was for a special event.
If you decide to go with a GoPro do not leave it installed in the car when you are not in it. They get stolen almost instantly.

Start checking GoPro prices before you go any farther with the idea.
I have dash cameras in our cars. Bought $29 Chinese stuff and not only picture quality was so-so but lot of software glitches.
Bought $200 Cobra (what I think is still Chinese as manual is having the same logic) but much better picture quality. I can read licence # from dash camera, so you might be satisfied with it as well.

How about a GoPro for $117? From GoPro via Amazon.

Thanks, I've already been warned about the cheap stuff; am leaning toward GoPro but no decision yet as to which one or where to purchase. Probably hard to beat $117.
