THIS DRIVES ME NUTS

I drive an ML350 BlueTec, 2013. I love the car. When I take it in for service I always am given a loaner car---do I have to say I love my dealer?--the cars they give as loaners are new models, C class, or GLK class, sometimes E class. I notice that in those newer cars when I use the paddles to shift the transmission the car will no longer remain in the gear i have selected. After a short period in whichever gear I have selected, the transmission will shift back into D, Drive and shift into whichever gear the computer thinks is best. It is the ultimate in driver frustration. I never thought MB would stoop to becoming a nanny manufacturer like so many others but I guess they have gone along with the crowd. Whatever happened to driver control?

This seems ridiculous. There seems to be no way to turn off this transmission control. I even checked with my salesman, who is a car guy, and from whom I have bought five cars, and he said "yep, that is a permanent feature, there is no way to turn it off." What a drag.

after all these years of driving, racing, being smooth on the street, knowing how to shift weight to each wheel, reading the owners manual, never driving with the radio on so I can concentrate, MB expects me to buy a car from them that takes away the control of the driving experience and gives it to the computer.

this drives me NUTS!

Turn off ECO mode. I have had the same issues and when running in ECO mode they are dogs.

If your loaners are 2014 or newer then it defaults to ECO mode. It has to be turned off every time
the vehicle is started. Then switch it to sport mode and you will see that they can still be very
responsive and fun to drive.

Salesmen are just that. They are there to sell cars, not inform owners of all the nuances of getting
the most performance out the car.
