Although we may not have the length or severity of winters here in upstate NY that occur in Canada, I did spend a lot of time before and during college in VT on the Canadian border.
In over 50 years of driving, I had only one car rustproofed in the late 70's/early 80's when it first became popular. Don't know if it helped since I didn't have the car that long, but it's never occurred to me to do it again, and over the years, most of the companies that were doing it back then are long gone.
I'm also aware that CR does not recommend it, and even the dealers who try to sell all kinds of crap with a new car these days haven't suggested rustproofing to me for years. You just don't see the kind of rust in most cars that used to be so prevalent years ago..
When out on the road, it's always best to watch out for Pot holes, Sink holes, and those other Holes!
