Considering a 1980's Mercedes - Help me decide
I'm new to this so be gentle. I have always wanted a Mercedes from the 80's and would love to have a 240d but I can't find any for what I want to spend.
I have, however found a couple of cars I am trying to decide between.
The first is a 1989 300 TE 300TE WAGON with 171000. Two owners. Maitanence records very nice car. $3200
or a 1986 190 with 147,000 miles in excellent condition. Owned by a Mercedes mechanic. He has replaced the head gasket, timing chain, exhaust, valve job, brakes and a few other bits of repair. $2300.
Problem is, I don't know much about either car but I liked them both. I prefer the wagon but I like the idea of all of the repairs that have been done to the 190.
Are there any specific issues with either car that I should be afraid or or steer clear of? I am looking for a daily driver around town and something I can keep for a while to pass on to my son when he starts to drive.
Thanks for the help.
