Advice and Guide with Factory Order

I am hoping to factory order my first MB in the next few weeks (I cannot find any in inventory with all the options I want). It will be a CLS550.

Ive never done a factory order and I am hoping to get advice from those with experience. In particular, can someone advise me on the following....

It seems to do a factor order i need to go in to the dealership and configure it with the fleet manager. However, I do want to shop around for competitive prices with

other dealerships in the area. From someone with experience, is it acceptable to go to each dealership, configure the car with the fleet manager to get pricing (hopefully

with some discounts off MSRP) and then wall out so I can compare with the other dealership offers? Or can I just deal with the fleet manager on the phone or by email?

Is what I described above the usual procedure for factory builds? Do I discuss pricing and discounts with the fleet manager after we've configured the options?

Please advise

I dont believe in luck.

There is no reason why you shouldn't be able to configure the car on mbusa.com and then cross-shop the specs with as many dealerships as you want.

Exactly correct and in the greater Miami, FL there are more dealers than most cities. Make them sharpen their pencils to get you the best price possible.

Thank you all for responding.

Yup, it turns out some dealers like to do it the old-fashioned way and have you come in to discuss (perhaps its there way of seeing if you are truly interested), but ignored them and just dealt with those that would indeed send me offers by email (after I configured on mbusa.com).

Furthermore, I also extended my dealership search to Palm Beach, Orlando and Tampa (I dont mind driving to go get the car) and dealt with several dealerships by email.

I was able to get a very good offer from a dealership in Palm Beach, and when I presented the offer to a sales agent in Mercedes Benz of Fort Lauderdale (I went in for a test drive), he matched it. Since they were close than Palm Beach I went ahead and placed the order with them.

Now I am anxiously waiting to hear back from the dealerships with updates on the order.

Can anyone advise on the following... the dealership matched the offer and placed the order (I only had to put down a $1500 deposit using credit card to place the build), but is there anything I can do now to ensure that the dealership will honor the price we negotiated when I place the order (i.e. they wont raise the price once the vehicle is delivered)??? Besides a note and initial on the build sheet from the manager on the amount of discount I will get, there is no other paperwork that confirms the price we negotiated.

I dont believe in luck.

That's probably more of a question for an attorney who specializes in consumer affairs, but in the absence of an actual purchase contract, I don't see anything stopping them from changing the price on you once the vehicle shows up. Of course, by doing that, they would be risking you storming out of the dealership in a foul mood, and telling everyone you know what sort of a pile of crooks they are...

I suppose you could ask that they do up a purchase contract right now, but then I don't know if even that would hold up in the absence of at least a VIN...

thanks for the response flyboyike

I agree, it seems the only thing stopping them is the risk that I will storm out and post a plethora of negative reviews online (yelp, google, facebook, twitter, etc, etc ) ;-)

I'll just have to cross my fingers wait and see. Anxiously waiting for delivery :-)

Is there anyone here in the forums that can access NetStar (or whatever application Dealerships use to submit factory orders) to check the status of my factory build? I dont want to bombard my Sales Agent with emails. Ive already emailed him once to confirm that he did indeed submit the order.

Im getting anxious to know if everything is moving along as it should.

Please PM me.

Patience, Grasshopper.

In the meantime, proceed to Dairy Belle not two miles from MB of Fort Lauderdale for a cone, and you will feel better.
