Thumbs down How to complain about a dealer


My wife and i visited a reputed mercedes showroom to buy a latest CPO car. Test drove the car, liked it and i was ready to pay in cash. It was late by the time all the negotiations were done. They asked me to put the deposit and drive the car. But during the inspection we found some mild scratches. The salesman said he will fully detail the car and buff it up in the morning and if we wish we can leave the car and come back tomorrow to pickitup and we agreed. By that time they already put my name and the SOLD sticker on the car. But next day when i was about to leave to pick up the car, i got a call from the sales person that it was already sold and they will try to get me a comparable one. I waited till 6pm but nothing heard and my calls went to the salesman voice mail. We went back to the dealer and they tried to sell similar car with comparable features for 4k more. I mean i have all the document and pictures that they sold it to me but the car is not there now and they are not ready to work with us to find a similar car for the price. Any idea how to deal with this? It was horrible experience. its like buying 2 cars on 2 days. Spent almost 14 hours in the dealership in those two days but no car. Any idea how to deal with this or how to proceed with the complaint?

Get your deposit back and go to another dealer. Thanks be to St Urho, there isn't much of a dealer shortage out there.

Sounds like a bad experience from a dealer who's not the most trustworthy. Dealerships can sometimes be a PIA when asking for your deposit back. Under the circumstances, however, that's where I would start.

We once had a Purchase Agreement for a new Cadillac and left a deposit. The next day, we were called back claiming we would have to pay an additional $200 for the advertising expense. Advertising expense! I guess I should have been thankful they weren't also charging us for the landscaping, window cleaning, and snacks in the waiting room, but we asked for and received our deposit back. That same day, we went to another dealer with our Purchase Agreement and got the same model with more features for less money.

Two days later, the original dealer called to say we could have the car without paying the extra $200 Advertising Fee. Sorry Charlie. Too late!

BTW, two years later+/-, Cadillac took away their franchise to sell that brand, and that's when I broke into my happy dance.

When out on the road, it's always best to watch out for Pot holes, Sink holes, and those other Holes!

You can't get us confused. I'm also "Nice", but NYYYCE is NEVER "Easy"!

1. hand a letter to the sales manager or salesman formally asking for your deposit back based on the poor handling of your situation. on the bottom indicate a cc to the President of MBNA and the CEO of Mercedes in Germany

2. Send a copy of this letter along with a short description of what happened to both the President of MBNA and the mother company and include it with the copy of the letter you handed to the sales manager.
