What country are you in? Some countries have overall top speed laws like Japan.

Most do not have top speed laws. It is the car maker that puts a speed limiter on.

I'm in the U.S. I read about the gentleman's pact where the big German three wrote an agreement to have a top speed about 155. But I want to know how much it costs to remove and how it will affect my engine.

You are correct about the "agreement" with the German car makers although some models are unrestricted.

A tuning company or shop that knows how to use the MB Star system in developer mode can remove the limiter.

As far what it will do the engine/drive line it will just wear things faster doing 180 mph instead of 155. It should not harm anything. The cars are designed to sustain speeds over 155.
