DISTRONIC PLUS: 50% or 100% braking?

The following quotes, from Mercedes 2014 literature, seem contradictory. Which one is a correct characterization of DISTRONIC PLUS?

A: DISTRONIC PLUS brakes your vehicle with up to 50% of the maximum possible deceleration. If this braking force is insufficient, DISTRONIC PLUS warns you visually and audibly. There is a risk of an accident.
In such cases, apply the brakes yourself and try to take evasive action.

B: Included with DISTRONIC PLUS are features that can help to detect an impending collision with a vehicle ahead. Even if you’re not using cruise control, its new stereo camera also helps detect cross-traffic ahead and pedestrians in your path. After sounding an alert, BAS PLUS can precisely boost the braking pressure to the level needed as soon as you apply the brakes. And if you fail to heed the alert, PRE-SAFE Brake can automatically apply up to 100% of the car’s braking force to help prevent or reduce the severity of an impact.

Don't own those options, but reading that
A is done by the car without driver input
B car does helps the driver in critical situations when driver input might be not sufficient.
